Thoracic laminectomy with and without a fusion

There are many diseases that may require this surgery, and what they have in common is alleviating compression (stenosis) of the spinal cord. Resection of tumors, diversion of cysts (syrinx), and reducing a fracture require the removal of the back part of the vertebrae (laminae).

If the vertebral column, either as a result of deformity (scoliosis or kyphosis) or due to tumor infiltration, has been compromised, a fusion is required. These procedures can be more elaborate but are still quite safe and have very high success rate. Patients are required, especially with fusions to spend 1-3 days in the hospital after surgery.
